Leading presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte is planning to impose curfew for minors, ban loud karaoke and liquor sale after 1am.
“The curfew is principally for minors, unescorted minors past 10 p.m. It does not bar minors with their parents and their guardians,” said Peter Lavina, the spokesperson of Duterte. “This is to make sure that our children are in their homes or sleeping already to prepare for the next day school.”
Lavina said Duterte may also ban loud music started 9:00 p.m.
Aside from the nationwide curfew, Duterte is also considering a nationwide liquor ban from 1:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.
“We have to work the next day, all the waiters, staff of the restaurants and hotels have to work as well as the customers,” said Lavina.
Lavina explained that hotel will be exempted from this measure. He also denied that people are prohibited from freedom to enjoy. Thus, only encouraging people to drink alcohol inside their homes.
“[This has] nothing to do about denying us of our freedoms. When you go home, you can of course drink to your heart’s content in your own private homes. The ban on liquor sale, drinking is only in public places,” said Lavina.
Lavina noted that this will be implemented also consulting different parties.
